Lynne Mackey
Academy Director
Lynne Mackey is founder and director of the Virginia Baroque Performance Academy, with this year’s Baroque Workshop marking its 16th year as part of the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival. She is a pianist and harpsichordist, and has performed solo recitals, concertos and chamber music in the United States, South America, Europe, and Africa. In Virginia, she has toured extensively with the Commission for the Arts. Lynne holds her master’s and doctorate degrees from The Juilliard School and the Eastman School of Music, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. Highlights of her career include performances at Weill Recital Hall and Merkin Hall in New York City, the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada, and at the International Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition in Rotterdam. She has been awarded fellowships and residencies, including an Appalachian College Association Fellowship for a residency at the University of Virginia in the field of contemporary music. More recently, she was awarded a 4-month artist residency in Paris at the Cité Internationale des Arts. She currently teaches at Mary Baldwin University, and has also taught as Associate Professor at Eastern Mennonite University, at Bluefield University, where she also held the position of Music Department chair.
